There was practically no rain in the Waimeas on Friday- night, but o^ '-.i----turday morning both the W;:.i i; .; <l
Wai-roa rivers were in high flood, indicating that there had been a heavy fall in the back country.- According to old residents it is an unusual occurrence for both rivers to be flooded at the same time. On -Saturday the rivers overflowed their banks, and the main road at Brightwater was submerged. Although the rivers had subsided yesterday, the road between Wainiea West and .Brightwater was-still impassable for foot traffic. The "Wai-it i river was at its highest at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon. ■
After the big ilood some, years ago, protective works were, put in at .the back of Mr .Reay's property at Brightwater, and those served a good purpose on Saturday, preventing the Wai-roa river from flooding the low-iyir.g lands between Bur-ec's bank and tho township of 'Brightwater
There was no church or Sunday school at Brightwater yesterday, owing to the flood. . ■ .
Heavy floods arc repep-rted in the Api>leby district. , The main roarl between Hope and Richmond was under water yesterday, and tho motor bridge ever the creek near Tobay's store was under water.
