The Carnival on Wednesday last turned out.a huge success. The election of the Princess was the : centre of attraction, and the _ various collectors worked hard for their respective Princesses. The result, Avas that the magnificent sum of £725 3s 7d was raised. Miss N. G6odwin,/of Riwaka, was the successful candidate, with a score "of £130-5 13s 7d. The following is the order of the candidates:—Riwaka, 1; Upper Moutere, 2; Motueka, 3; Lower Moutere, 4. The procession took, place in tlie •■morning'under- ideal weather conditions, and the Motueka Brass Band were in attendance. Speeches appropriate to the occasion were made by Colonel H. Everett, Chaplain. W.W. French, and Lieutenant H. Buekeridge. •A- tug-of-war and school »■. children's sports occupied the rest of the clay. In the evening the Horticultural Hall was packed with'a large and appreciative audience. The- Peirrots, in the capable hands of Mr. T. Hanham, entertained the audience with various items. The following the winners of . the raffles :— F/it'lamb, L. S'childheur, who sold it to Mi". Wilkinson, and he in turn presented it back to the committee, and it was eventually sold by Mr. Rankin at auction. This lamb was donated by Mrs. G. Harley. Razor, Mr. C. White; rooster, William Coppins; 101b ton,' Mr W. W., Henderson; pipe, J. A. Wallace; picture, Miss Fowler.; nig, L. W. Goodall; 2 pictures, J. A. Wallace; cushion, Frank Manc^j.rafia basket. Wm. Boyce; tennis racquet, ■Miss Woodham; cushion, I>. Tnglis; £To. 1 tahle centre,-Ellis Fry; No. 2 table centre. A. McLean: silver jtig. H. Trewavas; picture, Mrs. R. Rowling; ham: Mrs. G. Harley; sucking pig, Mrs Hogan; volumes of Scott's works, presented by Mr. J. Sharp,.J. W. Fowler. A guinea pig presented by Mr. McGnveston's children was sold and resold, Bringing in all 10 6d. The ladies worked hard to make the Carnival a success, and they were busy at the stalls, tea rooms and luncheon booth on the ground and in the hall. Quite a number of residents in all parts of the district came forward with gifts of hams, cakes and dainties incidental to the wants of the inner man, there being an abundance of good things, and one and all n-uch appreciate their efforts. Owing to the hall being pnckfid and being busy selling tickets, for raffles, etc.."Mr. J. H. Rai£ kin announced that the auction 'of nroduce. etc.., would be held on Saturday afternoon. at- 2.30.
