A German communique states: The j Kr.giish attacked in considerable force, our positions west and north of Fromclle^. Counter-.'ittacks threw them Imck I'rom points which they had penetrated. The English again penetrated Longueval and Bevilk^Farm, but coun-ter-attacks compelled them to retire, though they still hold portions of the village and farm. Anglo-French attacks oil the whole front from Foureaux Wood to the Somme began this- morning. The first attack was broken. The French in the afternoon made two unfruitful attack? in the regioia of Belloy en Sauteiro. They were three times j repulsed this morning in the Estrocs — Hoyecourt sector." ,
