Chaplain J. F. Coursey, formerly of Westport, is now in Franco.

Lance-Corporal A. H. Rose, who was reported as. having • been wounded in the neck, is a son of Mr. J. F. Rose, Takaka. ' '

The death occurred at Feiliim-r yesterday of Mr George Kirton, fo" 40 years a resident of Feildiug, aged 76. He was formerly part-proprietor of the "Feilding Star."

The Rev. E. C. Cook, curate at St.Mary's Church, New Plymouth, has volunteered for service with the ambulance and is waiting to (be called up. Mr Cook has lost one brother at Gallipqli, and has another who is sergeant in the field artillery in Flanders.

Mr A. H. Barltrop has been notified by the Minister of Defence that his son frank, who is serving with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, was wounded on June 18th "and is from stock..

The Mother-General of the Institute of Notre Dame dcs Alissions has just left the mother house of the Order, Deal, England, on a long-deferred visit to the various houses abroad, and is expected in Christ-church shortly. The Mother-General (Rex-. Mother St. Pacome) was formerly Mother Provincial of the Order in New Zealand.

An English paper reports the death of ex-Drum-Major John Riattray, aged 89. He was Sir Colin Campbell's bugler at Alma, and served in the 93rd Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He was through the Crimea and Indian Mutiny, and met with many thrilling experiences. Rattray wias the possessor of six medals, including one for meritorious service.

Dr. William Brown, M.A., who was for several years chairman of the Board of Governors of the Boys' and Girls' High Schools, Dunedin, laoid at one time chairman of the Otago Education Board, died suddenly* in Dunedin at the age of 71. The deceased, a highly respected medical practitioner in the southern city, was born in Bantfshire, Scotland. For some years Dr. Brown held the twsition of " lecture]" on surgery in the University of Otago. The deceased" took a great interest in outdoor recreation.

Private R. J. Wilson, who was reported recently as hlan-ing died of wounds, was born at Edinburgh, Scotland. He played Association football before coming to New Zealand, and he represented Otago at Rugby as a member of the Port Chalmers Club, (and also represented Otago in the soccer game as a member of the Ravencbourne Club. He was employed with the Union Steam Ship Company at Port Chalmers as an engineer, and left with the Third Reinforcements. He wias wounded at Gallipoli and sent to England to re-* cruit, finally going to France, where he received his fatal wound.
