THE ALEXANDRA HOME FIRE.
(To the Editor of "The Colonist-")
Sir, —As the taxi cab incident ml connection with the above fire has been! given prominence, and as my name has I been mentioned in this connection, I should like to state the c&se from my standpoint. The facts ias published in the papers may lead the ,pu!blic to suppose I did not wait for a reply and that the car could not be moved owing to defects. This is not so. The car was standing outside the Nelson Club., and the driver was in conversation with a lady. As the reel came, into view the driver proceeded to drive away, and I jumped on the footboard and requested him to take tho reel to the fire, as the case was urgent. He stopped the car and stated he had to go to Nile street, and there was absolutely no mention of defective gears. He then drove off in the direction of Nile street, and the car appeared to start and stop quite readily. Had the matter of defective gears been menI tioneel there would have been no necessity for me to report the matter to the brigade captain.
I am, etc., FOREMAN NESBIT,
Nelson Fire Brigade.
