At tho Empire Theatre 'to-night n complete change of programme will be presented, including a special attraction in tho magnificent Oriental drama ''The Carpet of Baghdad," founded upon Harold McGrath's novel. It is a story of ancient Baghdad, famed in song and story, of soothsayer s-, of crys-tal-gazing, and of how a precious prayer-rug was stolen from a mosque L'nd in its travels imperilled the Hve3 of two men and a beautiful young woman. Among tho characters in the story are Fortuna, the girl who unravels the mystery, and Mahomed, guardian of the sacred caipet, who has grimly followed it through storm and stress, and in the end resigns himself to fate and murmurs, looking towards Mecca, "What is to be will be." There will bo a supporting programme of interesting items
A matinee will be held at 2.30 p.m to-day.
