M r Opie, •chairman of the .North Canterbury Education''Board, in a conference "with the- Groy Board, saia, with regard to the amalgamation of distrk-ts, .that it 'was one of the grossest pieces of misrepresentation he had ki'own. The two West Coast boards taken in with tho Canterbury body should be in a position, each to elect a representative, whereas the actual position was that possibly they would not elect one. It all depended on the w)a.y they used their powers. The general opinion of the -conference was that amalgamation was not desired.by the members of the boards, but had been biought about- by tho teacher*. Preliminary matters for taking .over the local board's affairs by the Canterbury board were arranged.
