Hanan, in order to iriake' representations rey'arciin^. the need of a, Dominion scale of salaries for secondary . teachers, and other matters affecting- their ■ organisation. They stated their caso in some detail. T]ie Slinister, in the- course of his-1 reply, said that the teachers throughout New Zealand ought to combine into one body instead of forming various distinct organisations representing primary, secondary, and technical groups. They, were all s-eho-ol teachers engaged in a- common work, and their organisation as one body would assist him in. an effort to secure n co-ordinated education, system. Mr Renner, secretary of the association, said he was in agreement with the. in desiring one corporate body to represent members of the teaching profession on the- lines oi the National. Union of . Teachers of Great Britain. He felt that sacli body would be of very great value, not merely to teachers, rout also to the. cause of education. It would assist to prevent gap's and'overlapping in the education system, and dovetail the primary, secondary, technical, and university courses. ' Referring to . the question of a Dominion scale of salaries for secondary teachers, the Minister said that a scale would be'difficult to devise- under, the present scheme of administration. The mat-tor had .received attention.
