There is a lull in infantry fighting in the Verdun region, the German operations east of the Meuse being confined to a violent bombardment of Mort Homme. The French advanced in grenade fighting near Oaurettes Much artillery activity prevails on the British front. The British were attacked on Saturday by a strong force at Buiedar, in Egypt, the enemy being beaten off, suffering heavy casualties An Australian column harassed its retreat. T^o Zeppelins raided the Eastern counties, dropping a few incendiary bombs, On Friday night a German auxiliary vessel was sunk while attempting to land arms and ammunition in Ireland. Several prisoners were taken, including Sir Roger Casement.
