THE MARQUETTE DISASTERS.
GALLANT BEHAVIOUR, The following extract from General Orders, dated December 11th, 1915, has been received by the Defence Minister from Egypt:— "The Commander-in-Chief desires to place on record his appreciation of the discipline, courage, and presence of mind displayed by the officers and men of the. 29th Divisional Ammunition Column, and by the officers, nursing sisters, non-commissioned officers, and men of the New Zealand Medical Corps oil the tirahsport Marquette on 2Tir&l Or:tober',- when this ship was struck by « •torpedo1 and stink. "The following men have been specially brought to notice lor gallant behaviour in assisting •to save the li;<s of others at great personal risk :— "10.-21G Corporal F. G. Henderson, N.Z. Medioal Cor|>s. "36] 2 Lnnce-Corpo'-cu H. IVtiit. N.Z. Medical Corps "3T>S Larin.3 (.(•rpur:il H. Muifin, N.Z. Medical Cori-s '•8/79 J.,fui.'3<:;>r>'Ml G H Cillit, N.Z. Medical Corps." Lance-Corporal Pett.ii. is a son of Mr F. C. Pettit, of Nelso:.!, and at the time of his enlistment was employed by Messrs Macky, Logan, and Steen, of Wellington.
