FRUIT CANNING.
. (To the Editor of "The Colonist.") Sir.—Thero'seems to be a creit outcry re th(> non-exnort of apples thisyear. I have always advocated the icea of "Eat what you can and cr-n v-hat you can't," Everyone is on for distribution in the raw stat^, and iir one takes up the idea of tho canned article, although there is a quarter of a million worth of American canned fruits imported into New Zealand every year Besides, even the rnw article is 'pair 7 for at the rate of 6d and 8d per 1!;. It is; the groivers' own fault iri beiirn- so , dilatory. Why do they not take xro the Government grant for cool stores' ant 1 so have 60,000 to 80,000 cases rr-vfdy te sell at greatly enhanced prices? It i<the old cry; they will not co-operate, te' get the grant, and at the :]rst little thing that comes along' to prevent pxpo'rb they cry out for sympathy. Cooperate; get the Government eranff^r cool ••fcnr«s. and there wilMwiip nf-es-' sity for importing the American article, besides getting rid of glut and aeftina better prices all the season. T am, etc., ~ . , ■ A. E. TVER. Motueka.
