Wellington, Jan. 25. Sir Robert Stout, Chancellor of the University, in bis opening address i-o the Senate, said that many students had enlisted for the war, artel more wore going. At ieast 34 had lost their lives ' The Chancellor criticised tho actioii of the Board of Studies in recommending -i.be Senate, to cea.so its statutory function of appointing examiners, and that the duty of examining candidates for degrees and diplomas should be vested in the teachers or r.ffilin+^r] i'^+rfcr+ions.
