APOLLO'S TEMPLE.
(To the Editor of "The Colonist.")
Sir, —Have you noticed the present discreditable condition of the Nelson School of Music? Somebody writes of ■Imperial Caesar, turned to dust, and the Bard of Avon, in referring to the mean uses of adversity, pictures Alexander stopping up a "bung-hole ; but. can it bo adversity that has degraded Apollo's temple—the home of the divine muse—to a carpenter's shop by day and a-'mechanical peep-show at night; and disfigures its outer walls with the flamino- posters of a street hoarding, and its lawn with a litter of .unsightly packing cases 0 The promoters of tins mstitulion designed it as a, means of elevating the public ijaste in music, and not as a monoy-makino- concern. Apart irom i.hat, the intolerable noiso occasioned by the workmen during the hours ot tuition, has necessitated the organist (Mr Tait) discontinuing his instruction, and to seek a more reposeful scene vor his labours. It would plaoo the institution in a more dignified position were the management to dovoto it entirely to the use for which it was founded. I am. etc., ' S. H". STRONG, i Jan. 5, I°AG.
