There was a sensation tl occurrence near the foot of the Wans:amoa hill yesterday aftenoon. Messrs Patchett Bros., of Blenheim, were bringing through for Mr H. G. Kingsland, of Appleb.y, a gas production plant and oiigine, and it .was being transported on a waggon, drawn hy n traction engio, to which was also attached a portable egine. Th c train of vehicles had successfully negotiated the numerous sharp bviids on the Itai Saddle and had partly descended tho Wongamoa hill, when at a point about half a mile beyond the Happy Valley stables the road commenced to give way. Tho driver, noticing what was happening, put on sptod, and succeeded in getting. the traction and portable engines on to firm ground, bat the waggon loaded with the gas producing plant, and weighing altogether some seven or eight tons, toppled over, find the couplings giving w;iy, they fell about twenty feet 'down the bank, landing upside down in the Wangamoa. ■, Annan named Heineip.ann, a brother-in-law of Messrs Patchel't Hros., who was riding or the waggon, jumped clear in time, having, a miraculous escape from what might hare proved a fatal accident. Mr 8. V/inn was motoring behind the train v.-ai.tini* for a favourable opportunity to pass, and lie brought Messrs Patchett Bros, and He-inert,aim in to Nelson.
