WOUNDED NELSON MEN

Sergeant- J; A. Laird was three weeks at Gallipoli, and as a memento of the fighting brings back with him a bullet in the groin. Ho-1- was X-rayed in Egypt, -and the surgeon there, on seeing' tho radiograph.' -decided tiiat the sei'geant had better • roturu to New Zealand to haw .the bullet removed. Sergeant Laird ppeaks well of the treatment received in .the hospitals in Egypt, and on the troopship, where the rood was good. Tb© only complaint, the sick men had was having to clean ship—scrub decks and generally keepher spick and .vpaii. Sergeant Laivd. said it was not a very pleasant_ job for sick men, especially after coaling at> Albany. Another trooper, who was asked about; the lighting at Gallipoli, said he was only there-three* days before he was put out of action. He was asked about ihe postal service, and remarked that: ho "never received any letters," feufc lie added, "I never wrote any, so it did not trouble me very much." Asked, about the gifts that were ■ ssent from time to time to the men at the front, he said he believed were distributed, but .he did not see any. He wasnot long enough there to want them.. Asked if ho would go back, he said,, "Yes, if I get fit and well I. will go back." Private W. R. Giblin (who went witk the TJ-'ird Reinforcements) Das returned with a smashed forearm, the result of a bullet wound,-and has gone into, the Hospital for treatment-. Prnate P. B. Lamb (main body) issuffering from bom')) wounds, and hasrone into the" Hospital. It is statett that his wounds were caused by a bomb, which he was endeavouring to return i to the Turks, exploding before h© .couldget' it away. . Private G. C. Cclcmar. was Lit m Ihohead by a bullet; ; ' Private T. X.; MeEvoy, who went? with the main body, was shot through the "lung, the bullet coming out of his f»ack He is now convalescent. ~ Lanc^Corporal H. J. Robertson spent eight weeks on-Gallipoli. . He wasiiiurod by fragments from a high explosive shell entering his chest. lho-. •vound has healed, though pieces ot metal have not been removed. _ Sergeant Laird, Lance-Corporal Robertson, and Private Hoy on "™ yesterday morning proceeded to then fames in Nelson Privates GOCole-' man, T.
