MEETING OF GENERAL COM-

MITTEE.

The executive of the Daffodil Day Committee met at Hallensteins' rooms on Thursday e^eriiifg. when there were present: ■Mesdcimes Lock (in the chair), Crawford (secretary), Harley. Tasker, Kitching, Dodc's,' Chappou atid Eastcott; Misses Ewart. Cooke, and Richmond; Messrs Tasker- NY. W. Snodgrass, Simpson, Finney and Moller. Mesdames MacKenzie, Vining and Bett sent-apologies for absence. Miss Farnie wrote saying that she was unable to bo present, and forwarding several valuable suggestions for Daffodil Day (Saturday, September 11th).—Adopted. ' . . Mr Vining -offered the use of ma garage in Hardy Street as a receiving depot for flowers. ,',.,,, i Mr Snodcrass moved that the headmasters of the schools be asked to arrangp for children to make house to house calls with buttonholes for sale and invitation cards on the day.—Mrs lLostcott seconded, and it was carried. On Mrs Crawford's motion, it was lesolved that a special display or. blooms be made in the City Council Chambers (sulject. to permission peiag obtained) and that flower stalls bo erected at the foot of the Church Stops. The General Committee- in connection with Daffodil Day (September 11th) met .at Hallensteins' room on Saturday evening. There .was an attendance of about 50 Mrs W. Lock presided. A number of recommendations from tho Executive Committee were considered and adopted. In addition to previous offers of flowers, Mr G. M. Rout promised a thousand choice daffodil blooms. Mrs Bett and Mr Vining offered the use of motor cars for collecting flowers, etc. Mrs' Bnuidell offered to make ±ortames in a nutshell. Messrs Cooksey and Co. offered to do all the carting free. It was reported that the afternoon train would he delayed for the benefit of country visitors. Reference was made to the approachins; return of the transport Tahiti with wounded soldiers, and the possibility of the Nelson men. arriving homo on Fnday, September 10th, or on Daffodil Day. Should the men return m time, it. w*as suggested that their reception should form part of Daffodil Day proceedirgs. . . . Clothes Baskets- Miss Hiarley. Freesias: Airs Wastney and Miss Buttonholes: Misses Farnio. Dimant, bowjs, baskets, etc.: Miss Grace. -nfu. Other flowers : Miss Prizes were offered by Messrs Snodorass and Sons, WM.kms and Fiold, Miss Richmond (for best decorated barrow-1,. Mrs Sc (for decorated biUv-cart), Mrs Sclanders (for best fancy dress reprca flower), Mrs Orawford (best basket), Mrs C. J. Badfiy (best deooiated bicycle), and Mr Arthur Tasker "Aunt Sallies" will he on sale, Miss Smith undertaking necessary work in this department. It was resolved that a charge of a silver coin be-made for admission to the show in the Council Chamber.

It was resolved to ask the National Reserve Motor Section 1© take part in th** procession of competitors in tho floral events. It was reported that flowers are "to be sent in from Wakapuaka, Richmond, Stokfc, and Bright-water. Mrs Wastnoy has offered to* procdio and isend in a large number of arum lilies.

Thirty girls and thirty boys from the Central Schools will be* available for duty. . It Avas announced that tho Masonic and Commercials hotels would take tables decorated by the committee, paying for the decorations and making :i collection amongst the hotel guests.
