NELSON COURSING CLUB.

PLUMPTON MEETING

The Nelson Coursing Club's meeting at Richmond Park on Saturday was the most successful yet held by the club. The weather conditions wore, perfect, and the sport attracted between three and four hundred spectators. The National Reserve Band was in attendance, and played selections at internals, adding materially to the pleasure of the outing.

Considerable interest was evinced in the challenge match, £30 a-sidc. between Mr W. J. Rose's Mo roe Statesn>aii and Messrs Opie and H,ollister's lvatipo. Morce Statesman proved the faster dog, 'and won two heats straight out.' with a good margin of points in each case.

The Novice Stake attracted eighteen entries, and there were some good contests. Dr. W. G. Meade's Whatever winning the final. The coursing was excellent, the hares being sta-ong and well trained, fourteen out of the twenty-one let loose reaching the escapes. Mr H. McArtney, of Spring Creek, again officiated as judge (coming to Nelson at his own expense), and Mr G. Dryden, a.s slipper, was most successful. The object of the meeting was to wipe off the deficit of the previous meeting, and as the rasult the indebtedness will be liquidated and a small balance handed to the Sick and Wounded Soldiers' Fund. The club is indebted to the Agricultural and Pla.steral Association for the free use of Richmond Park. Appended are the results: — CHALLENGE MATCH. £30 a-side: First heat: W. J. Rose's f d Moree Statesman (Lapsus Linguae— Stately), IQh points; Opie and Hollist.er's b and w d Katipo (MasonicMosquito) 7-J- points. The first course was declared off", Katipo not sighting the hiare. From the slip the pair raced together, Moree Statesman gaining 3 for the lead and 4. for turns. Katipo then got a half and three turns. Most of; the work was then done:'by Moree Statesman, who finished with a clean kill. Second heat: Morce Statesman scored 2 points for the lead and two turns; then Katipo got one tor a turn ; Moree Statesman then scored a half and killed, for which he was not allowed any points. I N.C.C. STAKE. Winner £4 17s 6d and trophy presented by the president. (Mr H. J. Harris), also Mr Kitchingman's medal; run-ner-up, 17s 6d, and Brown Bros.' trophy. First round: Dr. G. .W.
