AMUSEMENTS.
PERMANENT PICTURES.
Last evening a very fine programme was (screened ■ at" the Empire* Theatre, when the star feature was the second! 1 series of the thrilling wild animal stories, "The Adventures of Kathlyn." To-night there will be a ; complete change of programme, including several features ff great interest. "The Battle" is $ very fine drama of war, of life, of death, of adventure, and of moral and physical heroism. * At the outset there are shown scenes1 of revelry, the soldiers of rapidly raised regiments dancing with their sweethearts' at parties given to farewell the troops. ■ Then come the scenes along the line of march, and afterwards those of the battle, showing war in its ugly reality. The cold accuracy of the camera tells what happens as the army advances: The romance is the story of a girl who realises that the man she loves is a physical coward. But war completely changes the nature of this man, and he eventually brings such assistance to his comrades as turns a desperate situation into a glorious victory. "Memories in Men's Souls" is .a beautiful pathetic Vitagraph drama. "Those Love Pangs" is a Keystone comedy, featuring Chas. Chaplin. A Patlie Gazette and several other films of interest complete this* programniej with which will be screened Part VIII. of the Gold Seal serial, "Trey of Hearts," entitled "The Mock Rose."
A matinee, will be given at 2.30 p.m to-day.
Motueka will be visited to-night,
