ENTHUSIASM OF ITALIAN TROOPS.
AUSTRIANS DEFICIENT IN
AMMUNITION
Rome, Aug. 19,
Officers relate that the enthusiasm of the Italians is unbounded. They go into battle as if they were going to a fete. Fighting with the -bayonet is their greatest delight. One killed 30 Austrians and wa.s compelled to change bis bayonet five times during a single attack.
The deficiency of the Austrian ammunition is apparent in their sparing artillery bombardments. The Italian fire is a. tempest of iron and fire, blowing up rocks, trenches, and fortifications. The Austrian trenches on the Carso Plateau and on the Isonzo were so constructed as to prevent either escape cr surrender, resulting in entire units being buried in the ruins. This inhuman and foolish defence resulted in colossal losses and its continuance jwill shortly involve the complete .destruction of the southern Austrian Army.
