Renter's Paris correspondent -states that shots wore recently fired at a Gorman patrol in the streets of Peronne. The Germans insisted that they came' from a house' occupied by a

bailiff called Berhecque. The latter pointed out that the marks of the bullets proved that ho was not guilty.

The Germans did not heed his explanation, and locked up Derbecque and his daughter. They sprayed the house with petrol and set it on fire. Both were burned alivo.
