THE LANDING.
COMMENT ON SIR lAN HAMIL-
TON'S DESPATCH.
A STUPENDOUS TRIUMPH
London, July 7
. The "Daily News" says the landing on the Peninsula was a feat of unparalleled daring. Hitherto the storming of the Heights of Abraham was regarded as the most romantic achievement of British audacity, but- i£ offers no parity to the stupendous triumph General Sir lan Hamilton records. Only the immensity of the issuefc at stake made the challenge thinkable.
The "Daily Telegraph" says the despatch is a vivid, and human document. It lifts the veil completely and heavy losses are admitted and explained. Through the long and dignified narratives runs the golden thread of heroism.
The "Daily Mirror" says that whether the men came from Lancashire, Australia, Worcester, or New Zealand, each and every one was a hero. The glorious clays of Drake have been outdistanced by the splendour and bravery of the men on the rocky natural fortress of Gallipoli.
The "Westminster Gazette" deprecates the seeking of scapegoats for the Dardanelles operations. It states that the operations would not have been \m-
dortaken unless a good many people shared the responsibility. It is the public's duty to,, support the Government in. giving all possible aid to our gallant troops, and not waste time in recriminations.
