MONDAY'S ATTACK.

MOST IMPORTANT OF THE

CAMPAIGN

TWRKS DECIMATED BY ARTILLERY FIRE.

Paris, July 7

At the Dardanelles the. Turkish general attack on Monday was the most important yet. At four in the morning it opened with extremely heavy artillery fire against our first line. They attempted several infantry attacks, but none reached our trenches.

Our artillery decimated them, and rifle-fire and machine guns mowed down most of the rest. The Turks were strewn all over the field.

Tho Turkish Asiatic batteriej continuously co-operated, and aeroplanes bombed our lines. A Turkish battleship fired while cruising between Maidos and Chanak.

Fifteen Allied aeroplanes at nightfall bombed the aerodrome at Chanak, hitting the principal shed.
