SICK AND WOUNDED SOLDIERS' FUND.
MEETING OF SPORTS COMMITTEE
The Sports and. Entertainment Committee of the gala day in aid of the Sick^ and Wounded Soldiers' Fund met in Mr V». Rout's board room last evening. Mr E S. Cresswell (deputy chairman) presided. It was reported that Mr "Rout had kindly given the free use of the room ; that Messrs Bislev Bros, and Co. had lent chairs, and that Mr TT. Baigent had given a load of timber for the erection of stalls.—lt was resolved thsil the donors be thanked.
It was resolved that the sub-commit-toes and -stallholders moot at the Park at ?. p m on Monday to allot space for the various «faiis and side Shows. '
The Sport?; Sub-committee presented the- draft programme of events, whicii was approved. Tn ronneotion with the flag competition for schools, it was reported that Messrs McKay and Son, in addition to presenting two handsome flags, had undertaken to provide the necessary tickets.
I Tho secretary (Mr W. S. Snodgrass) and the treasurer (Mr G. J. Robertson) wore appointed to visit Stoke on Monday evening to explain the arrangements that were being made for the produce and gala days. The chairman (Mr E. S. Cresswell), the secretary, and Mrs Crawford were appointed to ntkMxi a luceting of the General Committee in connection with the conference with country delegates to be held on Saturday evening.
The secretary reported that Mi- Herbert Ben Kern ami (Upper Moutcre) had consented to cart any gifts from Uppor Moutere for the produce and gala dav.s. It was reported that the following offers had been received by thu committee of articles, etc., for disposal on tho gala day:—J. A. Mitchell, sheep; H. J. Harris, cake; G d'Emdon, day's free motor ride ; K. S. CresswelJ, flag for Nelson College competition; Tiller and Moore, 3 pictures, G. Estcourn, violin; A. Hunter, epergne; Technical School, Morris chair; Stoke resident, buggy; Sliss Murray, sewing machine; Savage and Sous, 2 pictures; F. "Wriggleswortb, ] picture; J. P. Beiruo, silver watch and chain; Tasker aid Levien, ton coal; G. H. Gothai'd, Westoprt, ton coal. The committee will be glad to receive farther donations.
