Senator Pearce reiterated his stai'«moat that as soon as the required aa'.a was received from the Imperial authorities the Commonwealth will undertake ;the manufacture of shells. Ho outlined ;the negotiations with Britain, which had been proceeding since September last, with a view to obtaining data rud ;the necessary machinery.
Many additional effeus of assistance in the production of munitions ha-o been made by engineers and inetalvvorking firms.
A member of the- committee which lias been appointed to investigate the question, states that an important •'«• veloyraent may be expected in a few it!! ays. Thy Oorernmeni seized 12 tracks of meat being shipped to London by Angliss and Corapauy. It is alleged that •the same firm has already shipped 37,000 carcases of mutton in defiance ot Government orders.
