FAILURES OF GERMAN ATTACKS
London. May 7, 1.40 p.m. On Thursday evening a German attack at Bagatelle completely failed. On the remainder of the front, north of Yuies, and in the neighbourhood of Vanqi'ois, there were violent artillery duels.
London. May 8, 1.20 p.m. At ('awn yesterday the Germans violently attacked the British lines at St. Julieii. The attack was repulsed with heav; losse? to the enemy. At Hill 60 th-: British have retaken part of the trenches lost on Tuesday evening. London. May 8, 2.35 p.m. Paris leports that a strong German work at Lens was carried, and progress made on the right bank of the Fecht
London, May 8, 30.20 p.m. Sir John French reports to-night that yesterday's .lighting ■continued south-east of Yprcs without change in the situation. We recovered trenches lost ihe day before. This morniiur the enemy started a violent attack on trenches from Ypres to Poekapelle and on the Ypres-Menin roads. A heavy bombardment preceded tho attark." Fightinc- continues, aud coun-ter-attacks are in progress. There is no change on the remainder of the front.
