RESCUING DESTROYER UNDER FIRE FROM BATTERIES.

The destroyer Maori, operating '". off the Belgian coast, was mined and sunk two miles north-west of Willenjinn lightship. The crew took to the boats. The destroyer Crusader went to thenassistance, but the enemy's shore batteries opened fire. The Crusader, after being under fire for.an hour and a half, had to leave the boats and retire.
German sources report that the Maori's crew and the beats' crews of the Crusader , numbering seven officers and 88 men, wore taken prisoner and taken to Zeebrugge
The steamer Don was torpedoed and sunk off the Northumberland, coast. The crew were rescued.
The Maori was a torpedo boat destroyer of the F class, and was com pleted in 1909. She was of about IOW tons displacement, and mounted five 12-pounders, and two 4-inch guns.
