JUVENILE SETTLEMENTS.
A committee has.been formed to inaugurate a series of children's settlements in various parts of England, in order to find homes for orphans who are otherwise properly cared, for, and to foster the principles of citizenship and patriotism. The organisers propose to rent, purchase, or build cottage Twines which will accommodate from six to twelve children in each, and place .thorn in charge of someone who has had some training in educational work. A neighbourhood where a strong cine interest is manifest is to be chosen, and manual work is to enter largely into the- curriculum, together with ordinary educational subjects. Should the young citizens decide, later. on a commercial or professional career, j the promoters believe that the time I spent in manual work will provide i stability winch no other training v.n give. The corporate life is to be fostered at the- settlement, and the responsibilities of administration will devolve upon the toys and girls themselves.
