The Commission is of op-.nion that further exportations to Australia should for the present be .prohibited, .except with the consent ot 1 the Government and that rack consent should be withheld unless 'he Government is .satisfied that sufficient for *lio normal requirements of tho Dominion is retained in tlu country. Mr Massey added that, in accordance .'with the recommendation, of the Commission, the Government will retain control of the export.of butter for the winter months, and will endeavour to tsee that sufficient is retained in New Zealaiid for our c-wii reqinrements, ami that a reasonable price i.s charged, as compired with the. price ■ charged m other countries. He also stated that infor.-nation had readied him that a shipment of eoro© 60CK) or. 7000 boxes !of butter was being returned from HdigUand to New Zealand, the consignees ' evidently realising that at the ruling ! price it "would pay them bettor to send iit back than to unload in England. I The real troubh was tho scarcity in Australia, and the high price obtainable there. Besides thai;, many l^ew Zealand fact-one* .which formerly made butter were new making cheese, be- ! causa it paid them better to do so.
