ORGAN RECITALS.
(From "The Colonist," March 28.) The programme for Mr. John Tait'v organ recitals at the School of Music on Saturday opened with Bach's Toccata and Fugue in I) minor, a masterly composition. This was followed by th'o Largo from Dvorak's .symphony, "From the New World." In this 'a negro melody is used in a .striking manner. There is a freshness of treatment about the Largo that made iii extremely interesting. The first part of the programme concluded with the Suite Gothiquo of Boelmann. a modern French organist. Mr. Tait again drew on Wagner, and achieved a distinct success with tli-3 Pilgrims' Chorus from "Tannhauser," which in the evening he was enthusiastically called upon-to repeat. His other solo was Mendelssohn's War March of the Priests, from "Atbalie," and he played the piano part with line effect in an. organ and. piano duet, Guilmant's Pastorale in A, in which Miss Jean Martin was at the organ. Two songs were sung by Miss Huia Bamiord, "In Summertime on Bredon" (Graham Peel) and ".Winter" (Bullivan). The young vocalist was warmly encored for her singing of setting of Tennyson's poem. Tho ■collections in the afternoon and eveuing roalisnd .£2 19s 5d in all, the net amount of which goes for British and Bft.igkm relief.
