RESIGNATION OF RESIDENT

SURGEON

(From "The Colonist," April 8.)

A letter was lead from Dr.- Washbourn resigning his position as resident surgeon at the Hcspital. to take effect in three months.

Mr Macmahon moved that, the resi^-i nation be aecef>ted with the deepest regret. He was sure all the members were.sorry that, they-were about-to lose Dr. Wash bourn's able services at the Hospital. . IMr Lock seconded the motion. He said Dr. Washbcurn had proved himself to be a highly qualified medical man, and had given every satisfaction to the Board. He had boon most attentive to the patients, all of whom spoke well of the doctor. Mr Bell said that all the members were very sorry to receive the resignation. Dr. Washbourn had been very successful with the cases at the Hospital. All of them, he was sure, wished Dr. Washbourn every success in his future career. Mrs Watson said that all the patients she had come into converse with at the Hospital had a good word "for Dr. Washbourn. The chairman endorsed what had been said regarding Dr. Washbourn. He would have liked to have seen the motion framed, so as to ask Dr. Wa.shbourn to reconsider the matter of his resignation.

Mr Macmahon said he knew that Dr. Washbourn had fully made up his mind, and it was no use asking the doctor to reconsider his iecision.

Mr Hoult said Dr. Washbourn had been thoroughly successful as resident surgeon at the Hospital. He joined in ■uishiiig the doctor success in his new venture. The motion was carried. Dr. Washbouru thanked the members for their kind remarks. He would be staying in Nelson, and would give tho Board any assistance he could with regard to the new Hospital' building. If at any time the Jloard had an honorary medical .sfyifi: in connection with the new Hospital, no doubt they would think of him. Ho was sorry to leave the position, as he likotl the work, and had fgot on pleasantly with the Board, but it could not ho expected that a medical man in the prime of life would lemitiu satisfied with the present salary.

On the motion of Mv FranHyn, seconded by Mr Lock, it was resolved to advertise for a i-ueocssor to "D** WashI'ourn.
