PERMANENT PICTURES.
There was a large audience at the Empire Theatre last evening, when the star feature of a varied programme was a fine K.B. melodrama, "Love versus Duty." To-night there will he a complete change of programme, and the principal drama will be a Kalem production entitled "Wire Chief's Reward." Jack, a wire chief, is betrothed to Helen. He punishes Vance for attempting to ' flirt with her. Later Vane© hears that the telephone officials are sending a large sum of money out. of town. He plans to get possession of tli© money. Jack, tthe wire chief, is on top of a pole on the outskirts of the town when he sees tho auto1 in which are the special messengers held up by two highwaymen. Cutting into the line, he sends word of what has happened. Ho mounts his motor-cycle, and goes in pursuit. He gets ahead of the thieves, and secures the money. The sheriff now takes a hand, and the thieves are captured. In recognition of his services Jack is made manager of one of the company's branch offices. A War -Topical of the Belgians at Louvain, an educational film of a Spanish bull-fight, a Vitagraph comedy, the latest Pathe Gazette of war news from England, and a Keystone comedy, "The Eavesdroppers," are among the subjects included in. this programme. A matineo will be held as usual at 2.30 p.m. to-day.
