ENTIRE BRIGADE W TIPED OUT.

STUBBORN FIGHTING WEST OF

CERNAY

Paris, Jan. 11

The French entered Burnhaupt in order to inflict the maximum loss on the Germans. Thereafter they retired to their original position.

The enemy suffered terribly, the French artillery wiping out an entire

brigade

Then the French occupied heights dominating Cernay, and also the Forest of Monnenbruch, southward of the

town.

Bitter fighting occurred west of Cernay, several points being captured and

re-captured.
