HIBERNIAN SOCIETY.

NELSON BRANCH

The annual general meeting of the St. Mary's branch, Hibernian Society, Nelson, was held in St. Mary's Hall on Tuesday evening, the president (Bro. W. O'Donnell) presiding over a full attendance of officers and brother member:*. ,

The report and balance-sheet; produced by thCf secretary (Rev. Father Finnerty) showed that the branch had prospered during the year, and that from a financial point the society was on a sound footing. In the report Bros. Doyle and 6'Donnell were mentioned for the great interest they had taksn in the .society during the jear. The election of officers was taken, and in some instances the seats were very keenly contested. The result of the election was as follows:—President, Bro. V. Crequer; vice-president, Bro. E Barry; past-president, Bro. W. O'Donnell: secretary, Bro. W. J. Doyle (unopposed); treasurer, Bro. M. J. Levy (re-elected); guardian, Bro. W. McKenzie; warden. Bro. J. O'Shea; visitors of the sick, Bros. Levy and ti'Shea; auditors, Bros. Patnc Keenan and Barry; chaplain, Rev. Father Ainsworth. _,_ „. Past-presidont Bro. W. 0 Donnell installed the officers, and in a very neat speech congratulated the lodge on the strides it had made during the year. Ho also congratulated the different members who had been elected to the deferent offices, and hoped they would have a very successful term. In conclusion Bro. O'Donnell returned thanks to the brothers for the support they had given him during his term of office as president He said he would also lirte to place on record the very able services of their past secretary, the Rev. Father Finnerty, who had worked very hard indeed "for the success of the society, and always had the interest of it at heart. It was hard to have to part with the services of so able a gentleman as secretary, but Father Fmnerty was unable to undertake the ofhoe or secretary for a further term, owing to the fact that the work had taken up a great part of his time. He (Bro. O'Donnoll) hoped, however, that the past secretary would always take as much interest as possible m the branch. Bro Keenan proposed, and Uro. Doyle'seconded, that a Tery hearty vote of thanks be recorded on the minutes of the meeting to the past secretary, the Rev. Father FJU?f his very able services to the lodge during his term of office as secretary. This was carried unanimously. During the meeting three new members were proposed for membership of the society, and two were initiated into thAfSThe business of the meeting had closed, the brothers mot toggtiigrto make a presentation to Bro. E. Barry on the eve of his marriage B»o. oVonnell, in making the V™**™*™.
