MR ATMORE'S SUGGESTION.
(To the Editor of "The Colonist.")
Sir, —I was sorry to read in your paper this morning that Mr Field has declined to agree to my proposal that we should debate the present position in politics at the Theatre Royal, for by making a small charge for admission a if airly large sum could have been handed to the Belgian Relief Fund or some other charity, and in addition an opportunity would have been provided for the. public to judge the merits of the sides presented. His i excuse that I was un-Briush in proposing to take half his evening is absurd, as we have both already had a city meeting, and if at his he did not present the case for tho Massey Government, what did he do? Parliamentary life is largely- a series of debates, and an opportunity should be afforded the public of judging the merits of the rival candidates, and no opportunity can be given equal to that provided when both men are on the platform together.
I am, etc.,
HARRY ATMORE
