! Wellington, Oct. 8. Volumes of smoke issuing from hatchways1 of the Italian ship Eurasia k lying at the wool jetty, caused a fire alarm to be given at 8 o'clock to-night. A warship was lying .on. the opposite.side of the wharf, and a squad of 30 men got quickly to work. The fire was found to be in the main 'tween deck space, somestraw and sticks used for packing Marseilles tiles which formed the ship's cargo having become ignited. The flames were quickly suppressed, and it is" not thought theship suffered any damage.
