BRITISH MOTOR CYCLISTS.

WARMEY PRAISED BY COM-

MANDERS

DESPATCH BEARER'S ENCOUNTER

(Received Oct. 4, 10.30 a.m.)

Paris, Oct. 2

The Allied commanders warmly praise the British volunteer motor cycle despatch riders. One Australian, a Cambridge undergraduate, encountered fourteen German cavalrymen. He shot an officer and a man, and the remainder fled. The Australian delivered his despatch, preventing an ambush.

The condition of the prisoners shows that the failure of the commissariat has begun to materialise. The Germans staked everything on holding their position at Noyon, and the debacle has now commenced.
