Wellington, Sept. 12. Tho Department Agriculture has received the following cablegram from tfco High Commissioner, dated London, September 10th:— There is very little doing in the hide trade. The average price for Now Zealand is Bsd (quotation nominal). Quotations for sheepskins at tho last sale held on July 30th were as follows:—Merino fuil-woolled 7£d to 9Jd, ik»rn 4£d to 7£d, crossbred fine B|d to 11 7-Bd, coarse B£d to 10-Jd, shorn 5d t» 9d. Present quotations are not reliable. There have been only a few private sales since that date, and the t>and<M:ey is downward. The next sale wiil be held this month. It is anticipated by brokers that a considerable fall in pi-ices is likely to occur, of from Id to lsd, especially so in the case of shorn. At the tallow sale which took place on. September 9th there was a fair demand for tbo better grades, but no de■Hiaud for the poorer. 1400 barrels were offered, and 500 pieces or barrels sold.
