ALLIES ACROSS THE MARNE.
ENEMY IN RETREAT.
MANY PRISONERS AND GUNS
CAPTURED
PRUSSIAN GUARD REPULSED
EVIDENCES OF ENEMY'S DEMORALISATION.
Paris, Sept. 11
A communique states that on the left wing the Anglo-French forces crossed the Marne, pursuing the retreating enemy. The British captured many prisoners and machine guns during the four days' tattle. The Allies in this area advanced upwards of 60 kilometres. The army of the centre repulsed the Prussian Guard. The action continued with great violence. The Press Bureau states that the enemy's general retreat was continued yesterday. The British captured 1500 lr.en and several guns and maxims and much transport. The enemy is retiring very rapidly to the east of Soissons and in some disorder. Considerable bodies of infantry were found hiding in woods, having been left behind by the rapidity of the retreat. They surrendered at sight. ■This and the rifling of villages and evidence of drunkenness point to demoralisation. The pursuit is being rigorously pressed.
