Mr "Walter V. Hobbs is in town making arrangements for the appearance hero of Barton Bros.' circus.
A Wellington Press Association telegram states that Mr Stuart Richardson, City Electrical Engineer, was taken suddenly ill on Firday, and died at a late hour.
A private cablegram has been received by relations at Waimate from Dr. Barclay, who is a lieutenant-colonel and officer, commanding the South Canterbury Regiment of Infantry, and when the war broke out was travelling in tha Far East. The cablegram reads as follows:—"PetrograS; volunteering for military service in England. Meanwhile at the Russian-Austrian front, operating as surgeon in field hospital. --H C Barclay."—Press Association.
Mr Philip Snowden, Socialist member for Blackburn in the British House of Commons, and Mrs Snowden have sailed from Vancouver in the Marama, and are expected to reach Auckland on the 2?rd inst.
