BRITISH TOURISTS ARRESTED IN

London, August 14
The Bank of England' to-day received £691,000 in gold. The United Metals Selling Company states that all American copper producers are curtailing production, and some of the smaller mines have closed. 'It is estimated that the United States''production has been curtailed by sQL,per cent.
German commerce has been swept from'the seas and German trades and manufactures are absolutely at a standstill.
' A Rhine steamer carrying British {and American tourists near Cologne ; was searched, and fifty men were separated from! the,ir wives and held as ; hostages without explanation. The act ;is supposed to be in retaliation for I England detaining German reservists.
