THE BOOMERANG.
If there was one thing which Australians believed was exclusively Australian it was the boomeran.; (says the ("Argus"). But now Dr ivlalinowski, one of our scientific visitors, tells us that the Egyptians .used the weapon. A much-misunderstood , thing is the boomerang. It suffers from the license of politicians in employing it as a simile, and it is, liaC everything else Australian, imperfectly' understood in England A i'ew years ago a poet in a London magazine wrote thus of Australian adventure:—-
The boomerang lurkert in each hollow
tree,
with ponderous jaws agape; How very thankful we should be For such a narrow escape*
It is to be feared that Australians do not always recognize the real boomerang. The spurious article is extensively m4a*.factured in Germany. German boomerangs have been bought as f^eniun^ by collectors within twenty miles of Coranderrk.
