THE ULTIMATUM REJECTED.
EXTENSION OF TIME REFUSED.
RELATIONS RUPTURED

The excitement in the European capitals was maintained throughout today.
The Russian Charge d'Affaires called at the Vienna Foreign Office and asked for an extension of time for reply to the ultimatum, but received a negative reply. ,
Then it was rumoured that Servis would accept the demands under protest, but early in the evening it was definitely announced that the ultimatum ha-d been rejected.
The markets closed in the gloomiest condition, Consols having fallen to 735, owing to the rumours of Russian mobilisation. There were even heavier falls in Paris and Berlin, and almost a panic al St. Petersburg, particularly in mining and banking shares.
