PERMANENT PICTURES.
Another crowded houso greeted the excellent programme screened at tho Theatre Royal last evening. To-night a splendid change will ho presented, headed by a Selig star ilein entitled "Alone in the Jungle." Jack Arden, son of an English 'painter, has fallen in love with Helen Brown, but her father discouraged the lovers, saying that she wa© too young to be married. Some time later Jack comes for another shoot. On' his way to the Browns' house he knocks down Concho, an overseer, for being cruel to one of the slaves. In honour-of Jack tho family start on a lion hunt. The next day, Jack going away, Helen accompanies him a little way down. Concho follows. On her way- back Helen stops to pick some wild flowers, until her attention is attracted by a lion cub. Concho accost© her, rtnd at the moment when she seems to be at his mercy a leopard leaps from the undergrowth and attacks the villainous overseer. Helen makes her way to where she left her horse, but only finds a leopard devouring tho remains of her mount. Concho escapes from the leopard, and crawls to the plantation and declares that Jack Arden abducted Helen. The boys overtake- Jack, only to find that they have been tricked: Jack returns with tho party to search for Helen, who in the meantime has been chased into the river by frenzied lions. Shu falls from a cliff"into the stream and swims to the opposito bank, the lions following. Jack sees the.m and opens -fire. Reaching Helen, a lion is found lying across her body, dead. Helen, only •slightly scratched, soon recovers. At the matinee this afternoon, a special star, entitled "Amid Raging Beasts," will be screened for the children .
