MOUTH
London, June 11
\n explosion occurred at 5,30 m Westminster* Abbey, under the Coronation Chair. Edward the Confessor s chapel and the chair were badly chipped, otherwise the damage was slight. The police are now in possession of the Abbey-, and are prosecuting rigorous inquiries. ■ Two women have been detained. The explosion was heard in the House of Commons, and for a considerable distance down Victoria- street. The bomb was deposited in a bag, which is now in the possession of the police. Prior to yesterday's procession Sylvia Pankhurst held a semi-religious ! service at her East End residence. j Scripture was read from an open window, and she offered prayer for the Cat and Mouse Act prisoners. ' The crowd gutside resented the irreverence, and the protest was renewed when Miss pankhurst prayed for divine strength to carry out her purpose. She concluded with the words: "I may die." A man in the crowd retorted, "Why don't you?" A mob of several hundreds attacked two parties of suffragettes at the agricultural show at Portsmouth, throwing bricks and dther missiles at them. The police rescued the suffragettes. Elsewhere in Portsmouth a crowd broke up a meeting, and the police had considerable difficulty in rescuing the speakers. In the House of Commons, Mr. Me Kenna, Home Secretary, said that he would not consent to the policy of letting suffragettes die. He hoped to take civil and criminal proceedings against the rich who subsidised the militants. Insurance companies were likely to take similar proceedings.
