The Constitutionalists are advancing to make a determined assault on the city, having captured important strate qic positions on.the outskirts of Mazat lah
An artillery officer in the Federal lines turned traitor, and decamped, taking all the breech pings of the guns. The Federal troops are disheartened. The consular corps appealed to the Constitutionalist commander and the American Admiral off the coast, urging observance of the neutral zone~around the city, designed for the safety of noncombatants.
