A pleasant and interesting function took place, in "The Colonist-office yesterday afternoon, when the staffs of the. various departments, to the number of over twenty, assembled in the news room to congratulate Mr W. TV Bond the senior member of the proprietary, upon hhe attainment of his 74th birth- •& °Sr tlle 51st -year of ni* connection with the paper. The editor. Mr Brad--2\ p? eßi d*-d» and on behalf of the statt asked. Mr Bond to accept a Morns chair at a tangible expression of the affectionate esteem in which he was held by the whole of the employees of e«fc M?ssrs J" F- etching and 11. W. btiios., foremen of the news" room and jobbing department respectively, spoke of the pleasant relationship that had always existed between Mr Bond and the staff. Mr. Bond acknowledge':! the presentation and the motives that inspired it, m a very feeling speech, and Mr Percy Bond expressed the firm's appreciation of the compliment paid to its senior member. The gathering concluded with hearty chews for Mr Bond and the firm. It is worthy of note that of the employees present on the occasion, two have over thircy years' service to their credit, and threa twenty years and upwards.
