(To the Editor of "The Colonist.")
Sir, —For some time past the quality and quantity of gas supplied from our city gasworks has not been satisfactory, more especially has this been noticeable in the daytime with the gas cooking department. Here especially the quantity deficiency is very noticeable, pressure being almost non est. I had intended writing the City Council as a part owner of the gasworks, pointing out that the works should not be wholly run a,s a money-making concern, but, after seeing your report of Friday's Council meeting I am glad that I did pot do so. A fair and honest complaint from . a ratepayer was received at that meeting, and the leply to the said complaint was: "Resolved to purchase a gas" testing machine at an- expenditure of' £50." ■ How 'this step is likely to improve the .gas slipply in' Halifax street I cannot see. Perhaps'a Irttle' agitation might result in a movement to purchase- a machine to test the gas management, and the result of this might well be an improvement in the quality and quantity of gas supplied. I cm, otc, RATEPAYER
