CANADIAN IMMIGRATION LAWS.
THE ASIATIC PROBLEM,
AMENDING BILL INTRODUCED
Ottawa, June 8. Mr. Stevens, a British Columbia member of the House of Commons, introduced his Anti-Asiatic Bill. He said the objections to Asiatics in Western Canada were not offensive towards foreign countries, but the question was whether the line was to be drawn against the admission of Asiatics, or whether they were to open the country to a flood of unassimilable elements. Mr Stevens quoted Lord Curzon as saying that" the common rights of British citizenship cannot' over-ride the rights of the overseas Dominions to protect themselves. Mr Borden promised consideration of the Bill, but pointed out that the end of the session was near, and it was unlikely that facilities could be giyea. for its passage.
