An eruption has taken place at Sangir Islands. Lava destroyed the cocoa plantations, and a hundred houses collapsed.

The Sangir Islands are a mountainous and volcanic group under Dutch suzerainty, lying between the Philippines and Celebes. The eruption of the volcano Abu on Great Sangir in 1856 cost 6000 lives. The people are mainly Malays. •
