Mrs. Andersen further alleged that Captain Kendall arrived on board the Storstadt with a number of passengers whose legs and arms were broken. Captain Kendall was so anxious to board the vessel that he scrambled across the suffering people.

The Canadian-Pacific Company's marine superintendent described the story as a tissue of lies. He was fully convinced that Captain Kendall intended to go down with the ship, and was only prevented from doing so by fate. When the Empress of Ireland heaved over, Captain Kendall grasped the rail, intending to drown, but the imprisoned air blew \ip the deck and the bridge, throwing him into the water.

The Toronto "World/ referring to the steerage passengers, says that some- fear-crazed demons, armed with murderous dirks, slashed their way through the crowd, stabbing and maiming. That is the growing conviction of seyeral who were in close touch with the whole situation.

It is further asserted that the undertakers at Quebec who are embalming the bodies declared that the limbs were slashed in a way no accident could have caused.
